Dixie Kirk is a Golden Retriever with some kind of mix, but we could never figure that out. She absolutely loves playing with her Kong toy outside, so when it’s sunny and a perfect 75 degrees, what else is there to do, especially when your dog is growling at the door to play? I took Dixie outside, and she ran around with the Kong. I didn’t know if that was her idea of “fun,” but I thought the general meaning of a dog toy was for the owner to throw it, but what do I know? Anyway, I ran after Dixie to get the toy. I told her to come. I even got on top of her and tried to take the toy out of her mouth, but she would not give the Kong up! And get this- Every time I walked away, she ran after me, trying to persuade me to keep “playing” with her. Finally I got an idea. I ran inside and grabbed another one of her toys, and when I got outside, I threw it. She instantly dropped the Kong and ran after the other one. Then, I picked up the Kong and threw that, and it became a cycle of throw the Kong, drop the toy. Throw the toy, pick up the Kong, and so on. That’s my dog’s weird version of fetch, and that’s how my dog got me to come outside.
