Louisburg FFA Come Alive Outside Challenge Event and Project

The Louisburg FFA held its Come Alive Outside Event on March 31 and sent some photos of the projects they worked on and the results of the event. The Louisburg High School and Leo’s Club received a grant to help with the expenses of their projects.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

  1. Bought a chipper
  2. Collected Christmas trees
  3. Placed mulch around the FFA’s shrub garden

Composting

  1. Collect tree leaves and grass clippings
  2. Run experiments using different composting methods: cage vs. rotating drum

Promoted Planting Gardens and Trees

  1. Cultivating a garden of high yield vegetables: cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.
  2. Use trellises with the cucumber and cage the tomatoes to efficiently utilize land space
  3. Use the produce in the school and donate to the senior citizen center and AGAPE center.

 The Come Alive Outside Event

  1. Hand out 600 hardwood trees to students in the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 12th grades
  2. Have booths set-up explaining: composting, recycling, lawn care, gardening techniques, and safety.
  3. Hand out water bottles
  4. Have Master Gardener presentations
  5. FFA’s Amazing Race
  6. Party in the Park: picnic, bean bag/ladder toss, kick ball, hay rack rides

It is incredible to see the energy that is taking place with the Come Alive Outside movement. Seeing what FFA groups are doing to make a difference in their communities is inspiring.
