More than a seminar
More than a facility tour
More than networking
PLANET, JP Horizons, and the Come Alive Outside Smart Companies, have come together to provide you an exceptional and unique learning experience. In 2013, we will host several Face-to-Face events offered at different regions at premiere landscape facilities.
Each Face-to-Face event begins with a facility tour of the hosting business, examining operations and identifying areas for improvement. You’ll visit with leaders in six key areas of the business, and later engage in roundtable discussions to problem solve similar issues that are likely impacting your company. This is designed to be an interactive workshop that provides the host company with feedback, but also creates an action plan for participants to apply to their own businesses. In each location you will explore the following departments:
SALES & MARKETING: Learn to develop ideas and create Action Plans on how to effectively tell a compelling story that captures a customer’s attention and finds ways to capture more business in less time.
HR & ACCOUNTING: Engage in open discussion on topics ranging from how to address the health care issues in the year ahead to increasing communication around FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT throughout the company.
FLEET MANAGEMENT: Take an insider’s look at how the host company manages their fleet to be efficient in supporting the operations team as they serve the customer while also being cost effective to improve bottom line results for the company.
YARD EFFICIENCY: Learn how the host team has intentionally made improvements to the yard that greatly improved their morning start-up times and then, together, point out areas that everyone attending can apply in their own companies.
OPERATION SYSTEMS: The better the systems, the more opportunity for a company to deliver quality in an efficient way that keeps customers and improves profits. Discover how the host company commit to continuous improvement in this area.
AN OWNER’S PERSPECTIVE: It says a lot about a company when the owner is willing to open the doors and invite peers in from around the country to take a close look at the things they are doing right and the opportunities they still have to improve. Firstly, they know that helping other companies get better will only build a stronger profession. Secondly, they are willing to accept the feedback that will come as both praise and critiques of the very things that they have built their company on. Finally, they are committed to continually improving in their pursuit of perfection, even if that means subjecting themselves to the scrutiny of their peers.
It is also very apparent that the companies that attend a Face to Face are also committed to improving themselves and the profession through the sharing of knowledge and wisdom that can only be found when real leaders come together. You will “Get inside the owner’s head” at each of our host locations and leave with a new perspective on your own business.

Chapel Valley Landscape Company – Woodbine, Maryland
Few companies in the industry have such a long running and stellar reputation as Chapel Valley Landscape Company, and this is your opportunity to learn from decades of experience while observing a company that has risen to meet today’s challenges and consumer interests as well. Serving the Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC region, Chapel Valley Landscape Company offers unparalleled design, installation and maintenance for both residential and commercial properties. Founded in 1968 by J. Landon Reeve IV, Chapel Valley has developed distinctive, award-winning landscapes that have been the hallmark of the company’s commitment to creativity, quality and service. Landon is a past President of PLANET and he is excited to open the doors for a look behind the scenes in their first Face-to-Face event.
As a leader for over four decades in the landscape industry, Chapel Valley feels it is their responsibility to preserve natural resources, and they have done much to prove it. When it comes to maintaining landscapes, they offer green services that include organic plant healthcare, use of beneficial insects, rain water collection, low flow irrigation systems equipped with smart controllers, and the incorporation of native plant species in the landscape.
Chapel Valley also takes pride in maintaining their facilities in an environmentally friendly manner as they recycle vehicle waste oil to heat their offices, perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, direct report and direct ship materials to job sites to reduce fuel consumption, recycle runoff water to irrigate inventory plants, and have introduced and upgraded technology to reduce paper waste.
Along with visiting leaders in 5 other key departments, you will get inside the owner’s head for one stop on the tour. Today, Landon continues to serve as Founder and Chairman of Chapel Valley, while James Reeve, President and C.E.O., oversees the day-to-day management of the Company.
