Come Alive Outside Great Ridgewood Duck Derby a “Splashing” Success

by Linda Coors on July 26, 2013

Come Alive Outside Great Ridgewood Duck DerbyNearly four hundred yellow rubber ducks raced down the Ho-Ho-Kus River behind Graydon Pool in Ridgewood, New Jersey, on July 19, 2013, as part of the Great Ridgewood Duck Derby. The family-friendly event was cosponsored by Jacobsen Landscape Design & Construction and Ridgewood Parks and Recreation, and it was the first Come Alive Outside Event for that area.

According to Glenn Jacobsen, president and founder of Jacobsen Landscape, “It was an awesome event that was well attended and got children and families outside (even in 90 degree heat!)”

Guests enjoyed musical entertainment, a sand sculpture contest, beach games, “duck-or-ation,” barbecue and duck races at the pool and surrounding parkland. The races consisted of three separate heats, with prizes awarded to the fastest and best decorated ducks. “Seeing the community come together for this event was a great reminder of the importance of spending time outdoors,” said Glenn Jacobsen. “I’m so glad that the kids and families that participated enjoyed the day and had the chance to create some wonderful memories.”
