|80 leaders from the Landscape Profession gathered on Thursday, July 25th, to talk about how they can help people in the Chicago area to Come Alive Outside! The event was hosted by the forward-thinking team at Lurvey Landscape Supply and the Chicago Botanic Gardens were the perfect place to talk about the power beautiful outdoor spaces have to draw people outside!
In the morning, the participants moved through the gardens and discussed best practices in small learning sessions facilitated by some of the Chicago area’s top landscape professionals.
Scott Jaimeson of Bartlett Tree discussed how landscape companies can energize their teams around the meaningful work that they do in making outdoor spaces more beautiful and the world healthier.
Frank Mariani of Mariani Landscape shared a variety of his secrets for drawing people into the landscape through designs and elements that allow them to interact with outdoor spaces year-round.
Jim O’Brien of O’Brien & Co. talked about the importance of helping people understand the stories that are in the plants and stones that are being put in their landscapes, as well as helping them start making their own stories and memories connected to the place.
Christy Webber of Christy Webber Landscapes shared her passion for giving back to the community and discussed how vital it is to utilize your work as a vehicle for making the world a better place.
Finally, Jeff Sebert of Sebert Landscaping shared his passion for finding more sustainable practices that not only make a lighter impact on the planet but also unite his team around a common vision that is bigger than their company!
The day ended with the group collaborating on ideas for projects that will be carried out in the Chicago area over the next 6 months. This network of landscape companies will lend their expertise and resources to the collective vision of creating the awareness, intention and opportunity for people to Come Alive Outside!
