Come Alive Outside Planting Event at Mooney Cemetery

by Linda Coors on September 5, 2013

It is great to hear about the Come Alive Outside Planting Event that is taking place at Mooney Cemetery in Highland Park, Illinois, on September 6 and 7, 2013. Below is an excerpt from a Press Release on the event:

The Moraine Township is conducting a planting event to install 700 plants (gallon containers) for their newly constructed rain gardens. The planting event is part of the green industry’s efforts to promote their campaign called COME ALIVE OUTSIDE to encourage individuals to get outside into nature and to promote healthy lifestyles. The planting event will also further the public’s understanding of the benefits of the use of natural landscaping in rain gardens to address flooding, improve water quality by reducing the amount of pollution reaching waterways, decreasing the need for auxiliary watering and fertilizing and providing wildlife habitat.

Nancy Hannick from NLH Landscape Architects was engaged to create a master plan for the renovation and enhancement of the cemetery and has been keeping us informed on the progress of this event. Volunteers are needed to organize and direct youth core and boy/girl scout volunteers in planting gallon containers in two rain garden areas.
