Come Alive Outside Challenge 2013 Video Documentaries

John Deere

Sponsor of CAO Challenge

The Alabama FFA chapters, 4-H groups, educators, students and Auburn mentors have done a tremendous job of taking what they have learned about Come Alive Outside and sharing it with their communities. Each one of the groups participating in the Challenge created a video documenting their project. Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit this page and watch the videos and vote for your favorite one. The votes helped to qualify the groups to be judged by a panelist of John Deere, JP Horizons and PLANET leaders.

We are proud to announce that the winner of the 2013 Come Alive Outside Challenge sponsored by John Deere is Elmore County 4-H and FFA!

CONGRATULATIONS ELMORE COUNTY 4-H AND FFA!

Seven groups of Alabama 4-H and FFA students, along with their advisers and an Auburn University student mentor each worked in their communities to help others COME ALIVE OUTSIDE this spring and summer. The projects were all fun and exciting as hundreds of lives in Alabama were positively impacted by this group of outstanding young people.  The leaders at John Deere, JP Horizons and PLANET were all inspired by each group’s efforts and what they accomplished! We hope these great young people and their communities in Alabama will continue to find ways to Come Alive Outside!

The Judging Process: Each group was required to receive at least 100 votes for their video documentary on the Come Alive Outside website to qualify for the judging process. A panel of 7 leaders from John Deere, PLANET and JP Horizons each then evaluated and scored the groups on the following criteria to determine a winner:

  • How well the Come Alive Outside message was shared with the community
  • How well they engaged children and adults in their project
  • Creativity and energy evident in the Come Alive Outside video documentary
  • The essay submitted by the Auburn Mentor on best things learned through the Come Alive Outside Challenge experience
  • How well the group understands the Come Alive Outside vision that “Everybody Wins when somebody goes outside”

Everyone did an outstanding job, and we are very proud of your efforts to bring Come Alive Outside to your communities!

Zion Chapel would like to thank our partners in the Come Alive Outside competition: Rusty’s Feed & Seed, Hussey Brother Movers, Windham Lumber Company, and Terra Cotta. With their help, we were able to make our community garden, the bridge project, and landscaping of the school a reality.

The cafeteria staff at Zion Chapel loved being a part of the Come Alive Outside program. We were able to participate in the community garden by planting a row of onions ! There is no doubt in my mind that the students would have never touched these vegetables on our cafeteria line if they had not grown them and had “ownership” in the garden. It was neat how the FFA displayed pictures above the serving line of the students planting and harvesting the vegetables.
