We are currently hiring a Full-Time Program and Outreach Manager in Rutland County, Vermont.




Come Alive Outside is a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 2014 that works closely with partners in healthcare, public health, outdoor recreation, and the landscape profession to connect individuals, families, and entire communities to the health and wellness benefits of outdoor spaces where they live, work, and play. Our mission is to inspire collaborative community systems that create the awareness, intention, and opportunity for people to live healthier lives outside. 


Position Summary:

The Program and Outreach Manager manages Come Alive Outside’s Outdoor Passport and NatureRx programs and coordinates, attends, and evaluates local outreach and partnership opportunities to deepen CAO’s impact and reach with populations underserved in outdoor recreation. Additionally, The Program and Outreach manager is the caretaker of the Pinecone Adventure Forest and the Forest Tale (story walk) along this trail. The Program and Outreach Manager works collaboratively with and reports to the Executive Director.


Responsibilities and Duties:


Program Deliverables:

  • Deliver high-quality and impactful programs in Vermont and support growth and delivery of programs by partners in communities across North America
  • Create content, deliver and evaluate the Outdoor Passport and NatureRx programs 
  • Provide excellent customer service and tech support to individuals and participating organizations using the Outdoor Passport mobile application
  • Coordinate and deliver local Passport and NatureRx program materials
  • Lead local in-person program activities that enhance the Passport and NatureRx and increase participation/engagement from priority populations 
  • Coordinate mailings of incentive prizes and delivery of grand prizes for Passport and NatureRx programs
  • Work closely with Rutland Recreation to ensure that the Pinecone Adventure Forest elements and trail are in good condition. Manages story inventory, preparation, installation, and book updates of the Forest Tale
  • Maintain and update work-plans for each program to track progress towards program goals
  • Update SOPs for areas of responsibility annually
  • Work with ED to monitor expenses within program budgets
  • Highlight/Present CAO programs on panels, to potential new communities and partners, and at conferences



  • Coordinate and participate in outreach initiatives 
  • Maintain and strengthen collaboration with existing partners
  • Cultivate relationships with new program partners to enable expansion of Come Alive Outside programs
  • Coordinate, lead, and evaluate weekly “Outdoors for All” activities
  • Manage inventory, delivery, and data collection for Outdoor Gear Lending Library


Program Evaluation and Development Support

  • Provide program impact and outcomes to ED as requested in line with deliverables to funders, program partners and strategic goals of the organization
  • Provide program related narrative to ED as needed for grant requests


Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Great people skills including the ability to inspire others to be excited about an idea
  • Experience with program/curriculum development and implementation
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to technology. We utilize many app and web-based platforms-including word-press, trello, canva, android and apple developer
  • Stellar written and oral communication skills including emails and social media
  • Experience with Google Suite and Office Suite
  • Well-organized and able to manage a project from start to finish
  • Self-starter and the ability to formulate and implement solutions to problems
  • Passion for spending time in the great outdoors and helping others connect to nature in a way that brings them joy



  • Salary (Average 40 Hours a week)
  • This is not a remote position. Based at Come Alive Outside office in Rutland, VT 
  • Normal working hours 9am-5pm Monday through Friday with some evenings or weekend work as required to complete projects or events. Typically schedule 3 days per week in the office with 2 days a week out in the community doing outreach/running programs
  • Salary Range: $42,000-$45,000 + additional $600 wellness stipend per month
  • 10 Federal Paid Holidays and up to 15 PTO days accrued per year
