The Come Alive Outside Design Challenge creates the opportunity for college, high school, elementary and preschool students to work together with landscape professionals to design and build engaging outdoor learning environments at schools and childcare facilities.

We are very excited to be producing the Design Challenge in 2 cities in Canada and our National Showcase in the U.S. in the fall of 2017. More details coming soon!

In partnership with Come Alive Outside and The Kitchen Community, Michael Hatcher and Associates hosted the 2015-2016 Come Alive Outside Design Challenge, bringing top college Landscape Architecture and Landscape Management students to Memphis to collaborate with high school students and landscape professionals to design and build an engaging outdoor learning environment at Memphis Catholic Middle and High School.  Students from Auburn University, Hinds Community College, Louisiana State University and Mississippi State University participated in the 2015-2016 program. In 2013, horticulture and design students from North Carolina State, Oklahoma State, Hinds Community College and BYU-Idaho completed the Pilot Program. In 2014, four additional teams in the United States and four in Ontario participated in  the Design Challenge!  Scroll down to the results produced by in past years. 2013 U.S. Design Challenge Winner

TEAM:
Oklahoma State University
Sangre Ridge Elementary School

Oklahoma State landscape architecture students worked with a local Boy Scout troop and professional landscape designers to create concepts for 18 beautiful outdoor learning environments at Sangre Ridge Elementary School in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The video documents the process and a link to a booklet containing some of the final designs can be found below the video.
